How Listings Work

Every program on this site holds a California license or certification to treat addiction. We do not accept submissions, and no one can pay to be listed. Here is how a listing is built and what each part means.

Where the facts come from

  • The California Department of Health Care Services license roll and licensed narcotic treatment program list: name, address, license type, capacity and expiration date.
  • SAMHSA’s treatment locator: services, payment types and populations the program reported.
  • The program’s Google Business Profile: hours, reviews count and the phone number the program publishes.
  • The program’s own website: insurance, accreditation and the license number it prints.

Every fact on a listing carries its source and the date we checked it. We re-check the license roll on a schedule and show the date on the page.

Licensed versus claimed

Only the state record sets what a program is listed as offering. If a website or a locator claims residential treatment and the license shows outpatient certification only, the listing shows outpatient. Programs sometimes describe services a partner provides; we do not list those as the program’s own.

Phone numbers

The number on a listing is the number the program publishes on Google, or the number on its state license if it has no Google listing. It rings the program. This site has no hotline and takes no calls.

Claimed and verified listings

Any program can claim its listing for free to correct details and add its own photos. We confirm a claim by email from the program’s own domain or a call to the number on its state license. Verified listings have had their license, accreditation and contact details checked by a person. For providers.

Paid placements

Some programs pay a flat fee for a featured position on a city page. Those are labeled where they appear. Payment never changes a program’s license information, its reviews count or where it sorts in the main list. Advertising policy.

Corrections and removals

If a listing is wrong, tell us. We answer within a week. Listings are built from public records and are not removed on request, but closed programs are marked closed.
