Medi-Cal pays for addiction treatment in California through each county’s Drug Medi-Cal program. Start with the county access line, which screens you by phone and refers you to a contracted program, or call a program that reports accepting Medi-Cal directly. Detox, residential, outpatient and medication treatment are covered when a county-contracted program finds them medically necessary. The county’s access line is the usual front door, and many programs can check your eligibility on the first call.
